Your favourite food for thought

Books

My book recommendations always depend on the individual and their circumstances, but I believe that any major crossroads – career, love, or otherwise – should start with greater self-awareness. Here are some of my favorite books for cultivating it:

1. Man’s Search for Meaning by Viktor Frankl – A must-read for understanding the human experience and the power of meaning and purpose in life.

2. The Power of Habit by Charles Duhigg – A deeper, more comprehensive take on Atomic Habits, offering insight into the forces shaping our daily behaviors.

3. The Antidote: Happiness for People Who Can’t Stand Positive Thinking by Oliver Burkeman – Challenges the conventional pursuit of happiness and helps unpack what it truly means.

Podcasts / Thought Leaders

  • Podcast: Steven Bartlett – Diary of a CEO. A terrific selection of guests and stories.
  • Newsletter: James Clear – 321 newsletter. Bite-sized wisdom.
  • Thought Leader: Oprah (cliché but for good reason! Icon.)

Who is your biggest inspiration and why?

I am inspired by people who have overcome adversity to achieve incredible things while staying true to themselves. I am especially drawn to those who have taken non-linear paths, embracing different versions of themselves and life along the way. I seek out these stories in memoirs and podcasts, but I do not have to look far for inspiration.

My mother, a disabled Polish immigrant, went from being pregnant and homeless to building a career as a self-employed solicitor, fighting for those discriminated against due to gender, race, or disability. She did this while raising two young children and navigating her own battles for equal opportunity. She is, without question, my greatest inspiration.

You as a Mentor

Why have you decided to become a mentor?

Mentorship has shaped my growth in profound ways, both as a mentor and a mentee. Having the right guidance early on helped me navigate challenges, make better decisions, and grow with intention. I believe future leaders benefit most when they start investing in self-awareness and emotional maturity sooner rather than later. The earlier we understand ourselves, the more confidently we can take risks, learn from setbacks, and build lives that truly fulfill us. I am committed to supporting the next generation, especially those from underrepresented backgrounds, because diverse perspectives drive progress, and everyone should have the opportunity to reach their full potential.
