Bec McCall
Group Creative Director, Hero
Bec McCall is a big thinker with a sharp strategic mind and a deep love for craft. She enthusiastically brings years of experience shaping campaigns that don’t just win awards – they work. Having a background in digital she employs a design-thinking mindset and believes great creative isn’t just about making something look good – it’s about making people feel something, do something, and remember it. She is also said to have one of the better punk jumps in the industry – stemming from her punk band days – and will usually find a way to work her dogs into the conversation within the first five minutes.

Career & Background
What inspired you to do what you are doing now?
I want to work in an industry where you can be creative, think freely and be yourself. I also have no where else to put my lame jokes and comedic puns, so it fits perfectly.
What was your journey and where are you headed in your career right now?
I didn’t take the typical path into advertising—I started in graphics, film editing, and motion design before falling in love with digital. That led to coding, and soon I was a front-end developer/designer, the only woman in a team of 15. It was there I started concepting digital campaigns and had the lightbulb moment: this is what I want to do.
Determined to break into advertising, I applied for AWARD School—got rejected, tried again, and came back as top student, picking up my first industry award. That led to roles at BCM, Clemenger BBDO, and Rumble Creative, where I rose to Creative Director and racked up 50+ creative awards.
Now as Group Creative Director at Hero, I’m focused on creating work that moves people. I love big ideas, smart strategy, and craft that cuts through, and I can’t wait to share it with the next generation of creatives.

Who is your biggest inspiration and why?
I can’t say I have a single person who comes to mind. I’m inspired by people who are unapologetically themselves, challenge outdated norms, stand up for others, and fearlessly push creative boundaries.
You as a Mentor
Why have you decided to become a mentor?
I know how hard it can be to figure things out on your own. I want to be the kind of mentor I wish I’d had – helping others find their voice, back themselves, and create work that truly stands out.
