Hannah Statham
CEO, Media Mortar
Currently, I'm the CEO and Founder of a content marketing agency, but really, like everyone else, I'm taking client problems, decoding them and finding strategic solutions. I've worked across many facets of marketing but most prominently social media, copywriting and campaign development and execution.
Career & Background
What inspired you to do what you are doing now?
To be honest, I was a bit late to the content marketing party. I started my career in law, thinking that was the direction I wanted to go in my career. Enter my first career U-turn. For my first marketing role, I had the good fortune of “selling” the best address on earth, Queensland. I was inspired by the direction PR was headed, with brands fast jumping on the content train becoming their own publishing houses, building followings so large they didn’t (always) need mainstream media to share their messages. I knew this was the area I wanted to play in forever, so when the time came for me to set up my own agency, I knew there was only one direction it would take – content. I’ve never met a business with “too much content” … and it’s kept us busy ever since!
What was your journey and where are you headed in your career right now?
I’ve spent the last fifteen years working in tourism marketing and while I’m always trying to diversify industries, I find myself lured back. What do next steps look like for me? Leading my team to the next level of growth. We have some big hairy audacious goals to kick this year, and it’s my job to lead the team towards them.

Who is your biggest inspiration and why?
I don’t think I can name just one person. I like to borrow a little bit from everyone I meet to be honest. It sounds cliche, but everything (and everybody) is a learning opportunity – good, bad or otherwise.
You as a Mentor
Why have you decided to become a mentor?
Put simply, I believe in paying it forward. I was once a mentee and early in my career and was honoured to have had an incredible counsel of mentors who helped me. But for the sage wisdom of some incredible PR’s (they know who they are), I wouldn’t have achieved what I’ve done to date
What are the top 5 skills or qualities you bring to mentoring?
- Asking powerful questions
- Collaborative
- Knowledgeable
- Looking for potential
- Optimistic
- Passionate
