Liz Ballantyne

General Manager at Media Mortar

Liz Ballantyne is a seasoned marketer with over a decade of experience in marketing and communications across diverse industries. Liz started her career as a digital marketer, working for a tech company that was (at the time) one of only six companies in Australia to partner closely with Google. After leading the brand marketing for that organisation, Liz has since worked both inhouse and agency, helping craft strategic solutions for renowned brands like Bundaberg Brewed Drinks, Tourism Queensland, and Guide Dogs. Liz is now the General Manager for the content marketing agency Media Mortar, where she focuses on supporting her team of clever creative marketing professionals to craft scroll stopping content for brands. Her journey, punctuated by the challenges of balancing career growth with motherhood, has instilled in her a profound commitment to empowering women in their careers. Liz is a big believer that you can do just about anything with support and the right attitude. Having navigated her career without a mentor for many years, Liz is now a passionate advocate for mentorship, firmly believing in the strength that comes from women supporting each other.

Career & Background

What was your journey and where are you headed in your career right now?

I’ve worked in a mix of agency and inhouse marketing roles, and am currently in the leadership team of a content marketing agency. I’m really enjoying my current role as General Manager, as it means I can make a difference to my team and help shape the direction of the agency, but also work with key clients to share their stories and solve their problems. Where am I headed? Who knows! I’m very content in my current role as I see room for growth and opportunity, and I love the people I work with. But change is inevitable, and I know it’s through change that we grow, so let’s see where the future takes me. 😉

Who is your biggest inspiration and why?

Hard one! Probably my mum – cliche I know! But she is someone who just gets in and gets stuff done. She is adventurous, has a sense of humour and is always willing to give things a go. She works hard, but is also kind.

You as a Mentor

Why have you decided to become a mentor?

Throughout my career I found it difficult to find a mentor. Now that I’ve progressed in my career, I want to be able to provide the support I wasn’t able to find. And I’m very passionate about supporting women in particular to have confidence and navigate their careers.

What are the top 5 skills or qualities you bring to mentoring?

  • Collaborative
  • Knowledgeable
  • Open
