Career & Background

What inspired you to do what you are doing now?

I was always drawn to creative endeavours and the arts, but felt compelled to pair that with a more technical skillset. Design towed the perfect line between the two, and I was hooked from day one.

Could you tell us a bit about your professional background and where you are headed in your career right now?

I completed a Masters in Computer Graphic Design, specialising in the typographic history of New Zealand. I presented this research and outcomes in Hong Kong, ATypi2016.

Since then, I’ve worked locally and internationally as graphic designer, font designer, brand designer, digital designer and now also in product design. More recently, I presented at last year’s ATypI conference in Brisbane on AI developments in font design. While I have a continual passion for brand design, I’m currently enjoying more product projects and AI explorations.

Who is your biggest inspiration and why?

I’ve never been one to pick a single favourite — I tend to keep a broad lens across those I find inspirational, and cherry-pick what I might take away from each.

You as a Mentor

Having taught design at tertiary level a number of times, I find working with new designers to be a collective invigoration of passion for design and developing skillsets. I like to inspire them, and they, in return, inspire me!
