Sofie Spelta

Marketing Consultant, BHP + Founder, SoSo Run Club

With 10+ years in the marketing game, Sofie has done it all—agency life, client-side, and now running her own business. She knows the ins and outs of digital marketing, paid media and, most importantly, how to build a community. She’s all about relationships (the real kind, not just LinkedIn connections) and loves helping people grow their careers in a way that feels authentic and aligns with their lifestyle. You might also know her as the co-founder of SoSo’s Run Club, Brisbane’s most popular running community, proving that good vibes and strong branding go hand in hand.

Career & Background

What inspired you to do what you are doing now?

I wanted the flexibility to tailor my work to fit my lifestyle. I also wanted to have control over my income and know that the harder I worked the more money I could make, but still have time for myself, my friends and my family.

Could you tell us a bit about your professional background and where you are headed in your career right now?

I worked in agency land for around eight years and client side for two. My background sits very heavily within the paid media space and client service. At the end of 2023 quit my agency job that I had been in for 5+ years to have a career break and figure out what my next steps were. I started picking up freelance clients and that then kicked off my little digital marketing business. One of my first clients was BHP and they offered me a job off the back work I did for them. I took on a part time role at BHP consulting on their recruitment marketing strategy to attract people of diverse backgrounds into the business across Australia, Chile and Canada. I now juggle my part time gig at BHP, managing my clients and running SoSo’s Run Club, which surprisingly takes up more time than you’d think!

Who is your biggest inspiration and why?

My parents – they made something out of nothing and they hustled to set themselves and their family up for success. They are humble, kind and hard-working. I take so much inspiration from them.

You as a Mentor

Why have you decided to become a mentor?

I have always gotten a lot of satisfaction from helping other people learn, grow and progress in their career. I have done this in both a formal capacity through leadership positions at work and mentoring underprivileged children through a program run by The Smith Family, and informally amongst my friendship circles. I am also really passionate about meeting new people and building relationships within the community – it’s the best way to learn about yourself and also the world!
